We had the opportunity to go see the American Idols in concert in Tacoma, Washington on July 12th. Our good friends, the Bennetts, let us use their RV and off we went with 6 of our kids (we left the 2 little ones at home with family-Bennetts and Ulrichs). I don't know that taking a road trip will ever be the same. We left late Friday evening and drove until we were tired and stopped and slept at a rest area. We woke up the next morning and Andrew said, "We haven't even gotten there and already this has been the best vacation EVER!"
We dropped Bitty Bones (Damon) off to stay with his buddy and cousin, Tori. We visited with Heather a while and continued to the Tacoma Dome. We went to the RV parking, and there were the American Idols right across the street. Rik went in to pay, and ran into Jeff Archuleta (Rik's college roommate, great friend, and David Archuleta's dad. After they talked for a while, Rik came back and we got settled.
We BBQed, and Jeff joined us for homemade white licorice ice cream. We got to visit with him until he had to get ready for the concert. We watched American Idol every week to see David sing. The kids would stay up and vote, so needless to say, they were a little excited!! We got FABULOUS seats in the control booth--thanks to Jeff!! The concert was amazing, with David Archuleta being the highlight--he's our favorite idol, of course. Jeff got us backstage passes to meet all 10 idols. It was definitely a night to remember. We went to bed, and went home the next morning. It was a quick trip, but one not to forget!!!
